Tone/Mood
Mood and Tone are the backbone and the face of a poem. They are what a poem is trying to convey to an audience. Often Poetic devices are used to support the tone and mood. For example in To His Coy Mistress, by Andrew Marvell, the mood was a sense of urgency. Word choice often alters the mood depending on the nature of the word. "worms" and "ashes" are two words which give the poem an altered mood of disgust and gives the poem a negative feeling.
Diction
Diction often sets a tone for a poem. By saying certain things in certain ways, a poem can have a specific meaning that derives from the Diction of a poem. Punctuation often is important along with word choice. Words have different implications when said certain ways, which in essence is diction. In An Athlete Dying Young, there is a simple diction that goes along with the serious situation of the athlete. Diction creates a picture in the reader head through the simplistic diction which makes this poem a more capturing poem, all made possible by diction.

Imagery and Figurative Language
Imagery and figurative language are used in poetry to help the audience further understand the meaning of a poem. Once a readers senses are activated he or she becomes more engaged in the reading and thus is able to understand its point more clearly. In To the Virgins, "To-morrow will be dying" is an image of a day dying, which is used to support the theme of carpe diem, showing that time is young and it needs to be taken advantage of.
Sounds
Poetic sounds are used by the narrator towards the subject of the poem. The sounds of words often give feeling for a poem and help the reader read the poem in a certain way. For example 'vegetable love' is a slowly pronounced phrase that when said demonstrates a slow on going process of love.

Symbols
Symbols are used in all types of literature. Symbols are uses of objects, themes, people etc. The importance of them are for readers to analyze something to further understand the theme. The themes and symbols used in a tragic play will differ from those of a fiction novel just like character, setting and plot. In Pride and Prejudice and Hamlet a common theme was the family. The idea of a 'family' and how it operates was portrayed slightly different in each piece. The symbol of family was used in various ways. In Hamlet the family deals with complicated problems like a widow marrying her brother-in-law. The family in Pride and Prejudice is very different. With 5 daughters the family's idea of marriage is to find a wealthy man to marry. In Hamlet the class difference was a minor role in marriage, it never stopped Hamlet from marrying but was brought up among others.

Setting
Setting in any work of literature is the foundation for the story/play/poem. Authour's are able to create stories that take place during specific times to produce what they want. In Pride and Prejudice and Hamlet the authors use their modern settings for their works. In Hamlet the setting of old Kings and Queens is used and allows for the story of Hamlet. Setting is more then just a physical place, setting also includes the beliefs of that time period. In Hamlet the ghost was a very important role because when a ghost was shown then it was a much more influential role then. In Pride and Prejudice the setting included the social practices of its time period.
Character: Hamlet vs Elizabeth
Character varies between a tragic play and a novel. Character in a novel like Pride and Prejudice allows characters to be introduced in a variety of way wether its gossip, conversation or a narrator. On the other hand characters in a play are not introduced like ones in a novel. Elizabeth from Pride and Prejudice changes though out the novel. Her changes is more for the social norm at the time. However she did change internally from not wanting to marry to wanting to marry. Hamlet's change through out the play is very internal. With the incentives from the ghost Hamlet was very independent with his change, however he effected others more then Elizabeth did.

Plot Blog
Polt is the backbone of any novel, play, movie or story. First is an exposition where everything is laid out. In Hamlet most of the background info will be know by the audience. In Pride and Prejudice the exposition takes place over the first few chapters, and is more open than Hamlet. The rising action leads a character to the climax. In a drama such as Hamlet the rising action is the constant set up to the event of act 5. These events all all staged as if they were on a play whereas in PnP the events were more drawn out and not every scene was as important as Hamlet. The falling action in a Drama varies from one in a fiction novel because of the ending of each. In Hamlet the ending was about death. In a fiction like Pride n Prejudice the opposite happens and everyone gets married and LIVES happily ever after. In Hamlet barley anyone lives.

essay comments
My essay was no re read by me. Next time I need to read it out loud or have someone else read it out loud beacuse I think it make sense while I am writing it. I liked going down my own path of a more free and open approach to the question which I argued in a very interesting way.

Intro
The idea of time is so powerful, it shapes and controls every aspect of our lives, yet cease to actually exist. Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero, seize the day, "Seize the Day, trusting as little as possible in the future". The expression is more commonly said as Carpe diem, however the second part is commonly left out. To the Virgins, to Make Much, by Robert Herrick and To His Coy Mistress, by Andrew Marvell both share the common theme of Carpe Demin. Both demonstrate how love is important with regards to Carpe Diem. The poems express the idea of how valuable time is through word choice, poetic devices, and the story of each poem.

Ozymandias
Percy Shelly's Ozymandias deals with the idea of time. Time is never mentioned in the poem but words such as "lifeless", "survive", "remains", "decay", all add to the imagery of the concept of carpe denim. "My name is Ozymandias, king of kings "Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!" Nothing beside remains." The speaker, through a quote, is demonstrating how a kingdom once existed that no longer exist, and implies that the kingdom failed to live up to what it could of. Both poems acknowledge the importance of time, or at least imply it, and it it understood that we must live in the moment.

Hamlet and His two Friends?
I acted as Rosencrantz and Guildenstern in the scene when Hamlet confronts them about being spies. First me and Laur made sure Hamlet was very crazy and pissed off at Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. Then I as Rosencrantz and Guildenstern spoke with fear of causing Hamlet to go crazy and end their friendship. Then Hamlet acted as if he was trying to teach Rosencrantz and Guildenstern a lesson and try to re gain their trust.

7 & 14
7. Hamlet's craziness comes from a false identity he has created for himself, which is the cause of his 'antic" disposition.
14. There are times in which Hamlet will become trapped in his false idenity and he will start to speak as if he is crazy. He truly just wants revenge, which causes him to become crazy, at times. He is very confused with himself when he says this, acting has he thinks he is crazy, when he truly crazy.

HW4
What is the basis for both Laertes's and Polonius's objections to Ophelia's relationship with Hamlet? Which of their arguments seems most (and least) persuasive or fair? What does their treatment of Ophelia in act I, scene iii reveal about their motivations? What does it suggests about their attitude toward Ophelia and toward women in general? How does class or station function in their arguments?
Laertes and Polonius both have a justified basis for opposing Ophelia's relationship with Hamlet. Laertes and Polonius are looking out for their beautiful Ophelia as any brother or father would. One of the most important aspects of a relationship is how the girls father views the male figure in the relationship. In addition an older brother such as Laertes would take after his father and do what is right. The conflict with these people revolve around Hamlet's sanity which is clearly not sane, therefore causing the resentment towards him. Laertes and Polonius feel like they have a control over the women in their lives, as many man would. And class plays a smaller variable in which Laertes and Polonius think that Hamlet coming from such a high class may not be the best of Ophelia.

The Language of a Murder and a Victim
In William Shakespeare's Hamlet the use of 16th century language creates an additional layer of material to analyze. 16th Century language is much more different then modern day language. Thus it creates the challenge to first to find out what a character is saying, and then figuring out why he/she is saying what he/she said. Protagonist Hamlet and Antagonist King Claudius have a complex relationship, turin from uncle/nephew to step-father/step-son. Being a 16th Century play the language used through out the novel allows for relationships which do not exist in modern society. Those relationship are based around the actions and dialogue between characters which creates these unique bonds and relationships which cease to exist in a contemporary society.

The Love Song.
Thomas Sterns Eliot's 'The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock' is about an indecisive narrator whom has lost sense of himself and his values. He constantly questions himself by asking himself things such as "'Do I dare?' and 'Do I Dare?'". These questions reveal his own insecurity. His insecurity derives from his potential lover, whom he wants to force a relationship upon via sex.

Mini Essay: "To His Coy Mistress"
Andrew Marvel's Poem "To His coy Mistress" has the under lying theme of taking advantage of the present, essentially living in the moment. The narrator uses the phrase "Carpie Diem" its translation 'seize the day!' which is evidence of his living in the moment theme. The living in the present theme is linked with sex. "But at my back I always hear Time's winged chariot hurrying near". The lady of the poem realizes that time is not on her side. The male figure of the poem agrees. He has a fear of dying before having sex with her as well. "The grave 's a fine and private place, But none, I think, do there embrace." The male puts a not only a sexual pressure on his mistress, but also a time pressure because they both know they do not have all the time in the world.

And the last age should show your heart.
"And the last age should show your heart." This is one of the most sexual lines in 'To His Coy Mistress'. Andrew Marvell writes with lots of sexual meaning. showing ones heart is an expression for making love. The man is preaching to his women and almost telling us that he has her in the bag. Unfortunately this is only his opinion and he believes by giving her all these complements that he has won her over.

Essay #1 Comments
Clearly my number one issues is proof reading and revision. I have many good ideas on the paper, however they are not placed together properly. If i am able to take my ideas, link them together, to create a smooth flowing paper then I have a much better paper. Last my MLA formatting was played around with when using the copy and paste method to upload, i will not do that on my next turinitin.com assignment.

Essay Review #3
I read a handful of Essays and decided out of a bunch i liked L for Latitia's essay the most. Her? essay is one of the most clear and well structured essays. From her intro paragraph alone and her essay maps. Her paragraphs relate back to her thesis and essay maps, which all still stay focused on her topic of various types of introductions. She has great quotes which she uses and quotes with in her paper. Over all the essay was top off with a solid conclusion which perfectly summarized the essay as a whole.
Essay Review #2
Review of A2, B2, and C2. I liked B2 the most because it was the most pleasant to read. Not only was it able to keep the flow perfect it was able to analyze every aspect of Darcy. In addition it had no grammar errors. Most importantly the author stayed on topic throughout the entire essay.
Essay Review Number 1
Read Essays 1, 2, and 3. I liked essay B because the focus is on first impressions. First impressions are always the most important thus making this a good start for a good essay. The other 2 essays did not have as a strong topic or go into as great of detail as B did.
