Symbols
Symbols are used in all types of literature. Symbols are uses of objects, themes, people etc. The importance of them are for readers to analyze something to further understand the theme. The themes and symbols used in a tragic play will differ from those of a fiction novel just like character, setting and plot. In Pride and Prejudice and Hamlet a common theme was the family. The idea of a 'family' and how it operates was portrayed slightly different in each piece. The symbol of family was used in various ways. In Hamlet the family deals with complicated problems like a widow marrying her brother-in-law. The family in Pride and Prejudice is very different. With 5 daughters the family's idea of marriage is to find a wealthy man to marry. In Hamlet the class difference was a minor role in marriage, it never stopped Hamlet from marrying but was brought up among others.
